Southampton vs Preston predictions

Southampton sit in fourth and automatic promotion was a distant dream just a few weeks ago, with Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich in a commanding fight for top two.

But neither side have been able to take the dominant step forward and have dipped in form massively.

Each of them have failed to win in their last two games which means Southampton are just six points behind Leeds and seven points behind Leicester, with two games in hand on Leeds.

This means two successive victories would put them right up there and mount the pressure on the top three even more than it already is.

It's incredibly tight up at the top with Ipswich a point ahead despite only picking up two points from their last three games.

Regardless, it could play a big part in who they each get for the play-offs if not automatics, which can go a long way in reaching the Premier League.

📝 Southampton vs Preston betting tips

Southampton have everything to play for, they're at home, they're in winning form and look more than capable of winning this well.

Southampton -1.0 goal handicap - 1/1

These two met back in October in the reverse fixture which came out all square in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

The Saints were a bit up and down at the start of the season, grinding out good results but often times conceding far too many and losing too many to be a real promotion contender.

But they sorted that out from October onwards, around the time they also faced Preston, with a decent unbeaten streak while steering clear of conceding many.

They had a plethora of 1/2 goal victories, and even went on a long unbeaten streak of 22 games in the Championship without a loss.

From that loss to Bristol City though they lost two more and even reverted to conceding quite a few in March, with 4-3 and 4-2 victories over Birmingham and Sunderland.

Before losing to Ipswich 3-2 at the start of this month, but everything has changed since then, and it's still plausible they can grab promotion of some kind unbeaten streak just like they managed to do for such a large part of the season.

But first they need two victories to really ramp up the pressure on Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich.

Betting on the handicap essentially means you're betting on Southampton to win by 2 goals or more, thus starting with a minus goal as a handicap.

⚽ Tip Southampton -1.0 goal handicap at 1/1 with Sky Bet⚽

Che Adams to score - 6/5

Che Adams has scored twice in the last two games, including one of the three they scored in their thrilling 3-2 victory over Watford which saw Flynn Downes put them ahead with the last kick of the game.

Adams has also netted three in the last four in April and seems to be thriving as the season comes to a close.

Southampton have scored the second most goals in the division with 81 goals in 41 games, only behind Ipswich who've netted 85 in 43 games.

Adams has been a big part of that with 13 goals in the league and has so often been in the right place as you'd want from your striker, to fire in from inside the box.

He netted 25 goals in the Premier League for Saints over the previous four seasons but has already bagged over half that in just 35 games in the Championship.
