“I love the club” – Lee Bowyer set on Charlton Athletic stay regardless of Play-Off outcome

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has reiterated his desire to stay at The Valley – regardless of the result in their upcoming play-off final against Sunderland.

Lee Bowyer has massively impressed during his time with Charlton Athletic, guiding the cub to a 3rd place finish and a spot in the League One play-off final, where they will play against Sunderland for a place in the Championship next season.

His performance as Charlton manager has seen Bowyer attract the attention of clubs higher up the football league ladder, with a move to QPR heavily reported prior to their appointment of Mark Warburton.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Bowyer has said that he is confident that he will come to an agreement over a new deal with the club, but it putting contract talks on hold until after the Addicks’ crucial play-off final clash.

We are going to speak again after the game,” Bowyer said.

“The last couple of weeks we have wanted to focus on getting back into the Championship, because that is the most important thing.

“I am sure we will agree for me to stay. I want to stay, I love the club.

If we get the right result on Sunday then I would love to lead this team into the Championship.

“It would be difficult because there are a lot of bigger clubs in that division who spend a hell of a lot of money. And we know the situation with our club.

“But it could all change in the summer and if we go up then we do not know what situation we would be in? This club should not be in League One. Promotion would open up new doors and new pathways for the club.

“I have told the players this week to enjoy the moment and grab it. I played with a hell of a lot of good players who never got a chance to play at Wembley.

“I have tried to make them realise this is a special moment. Every player wants to play in these occasions.”
