Coventry City have revealed that they have sold three times as many season tickets one day after release this summer than what was sold 12 months ago despite the club’s controversial ground-share with neighbours Birmingham City.
The Sky Blues are set to play their home games at the St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium next season after failing to agree a deal with the landlords of their Ricoh Arena home, rugby union club Wasps.
The move means that Coventry City will retain their place in the English Football League and will be able to fulfil their fixtures in Sky Bet League One next season. Their ground-share does have a big impact on the long suffering fans of the Sky Blues with supporters being made to undergo a 44-mile round trip to watch their club in action at ‘home’.
Despite the enforced move, Coventry City have revealed that over 500 fans have committed themselves to the club next season by purchasing season tickets on the first day of sales. The club reportedly sold almost 400 less at the same point last season, astonishing figures given the frustration and suffering which their fans have endured in recent years.
Coventry City will find out who their first Sky Bet League One opponents at the St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium will be next Thursday when the 2019/2020 English Football League fixtures are announced.
