Five Ipswich Town players out of contract this June

In these unprecedented times, no one knows what is happening with football. It’s on an enforced hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and there’s no real sign of when this will be lifted. There’ll be a logistical backlog of games to get through. Aside from that, there is also the need to consider player contract situations – the projected end date for the season being past the traditional 30 June cut-off point for contracts.

Ipswich Town was a side tipped by some for promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship. However, they have bobbled about with some inconsistency and find themselves seven points and many goals short of the playoff picture. With this cessation of football, the Tractor Boys find themselves on an awful run of form with just one win in their last five games. There is also the uncertainty of contracts and what will happen with those, Here are five Ipswich Town players whose contracts run out at the end of June.

Gwion Edwards (left-winger): Welsh winger Edwards joined Ipswich from Peterborough midway through July 2018 from Peterborough for a fee thought to be around £700,000. Since signing on at Portman Road, he has gone on to make 69 appearances for the Suffolk side, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. This season he has featured in 27 games for Town, scoring two goals and laying on one assist.

Andre Dozzell (central midfield): 20-year-old Dozzell is the son of former Ipswich great Jason Dozzell and has been at Ipswich Town all his life. He leapt up to first-team football at Portman Road in the 2016/17 campaign and has gone on to feature 47 times for Town, scoring three goals and adding one assist. He’s struggled for game time this season and has only made 10 appearances covering a total of 608 minutes in the league.

Will Keane (Centre-forward): 27-year-old Keane joined Ipswich from Championship side Hull City in late -August last year. The former England Under-21 international came through the ranks at giants Manchester United before signing for the Tigers in late-August 2016. Cole Skuse (defensive midfield): Skuse signed a new deal in February 2018 that saw him through to this summer. He originally signed for the Tractor Boys from Bristol City at the opening of the summer 2013 transfer window and has gone on to make 274 appearances for the Portman Road side, scoring two goals and providing 12 assists along the way. This season the Bristol-born defensive midfielder has featured in 29 games and providing one assist.

Danny Rowe (left-winger): Manchester-born Rowe has been at Portman Road since joining for around £100,000 near the end of January 2017 from Mansfield Town.
